SDFC Proudly hosted its inaugural awards dinners over the last two weeks.
Kicking off with the junior dinner the U8-U10 SDFC teams enjoyed a night of awards and fun at Victors Chateau in Little Falls. Guest speaker Tony Williams, Director of Development for MSSL EDP, captivated the players with his clever audience participation speech.
Awards were given for individual successes – Players Player of The Year (voted by team members), Coaches Player of The Year and the Club Male and Female Players of The Year.
All of the awards are listed below.
Club President outlined the plan for the upcoming year with a thrilled audience hearing about the upcoming European tour, new programs and new facilities.
"I loved the end of year dinner as a player and with 250 people attending each of our two dinners I was thrilled to see 500 club members so excited about all of the players that won awards even when it was not there own child. on top of this the players were wildly enthusiastic especially the players player of the year" enthused Club President, .
The coaches award was decided by the coach of each team with the collective staff voting on the club player but the coveted Players Player Award was strictly decided by private player voting.
The senior dinner which was held the following week played host to guest speaker Julie Shackford. As the head coach of Princeton University women's team, Julie spoke of the passion needed to excel and how important it was for parents to be encouraging and supportive versus being overly analytical. This rousing speech finished to thunderous applause and the awards dinner proceeded. With the SDFC teams from ages 11-18 present the tone was definitely different than the junior dinner.
"The seniors looked amazing and were immaculately turned out. The players were thrilled with the evening and to see the consistency of support for the winners was especially pleasing. We had a great year and we are now busily planning next year." Mark Gillon SDFC DIrector.
The evening finished with the club player awards and long time club players, Alex Nicol, Miles Hackett, Claire Malone and Joanna Scotti took the top honors along with Kayla Parsons from the 11 year old Samba who was also voted club player of the year.
